Preparing to meet a client who thinks you’re only about compliance.

So, you’ve got a date to meet when you will explore the whole of their business and them, personally. Preparation is all, so have a small number of key questions ready, about their: 

  1. Compliance – an easy entrée as you do that already  

  2. Personal finances – easy as you probably do their tax return 

  3. Business finances – easy as you do the corporate tax return  

  4. Business Management – easy if you do their bookkeeping and annual accounts  

  5. Personal ambitions – ultimate lifestyle / exit plan  

  6. Business ambitions - growth or closure plan  

One question about each is enough to get started so think what to ask that will get them talking. Keep them open ended so they can’t answer yes / no and are drawn into a conversation when you can use Active Listening skills to find out everything you need to know.
