Create a Clear Brand

1 - Choose one that clearly states what you do and very simply illustrates it on all the media that you plan to use: business cards; letterhead; compliments slips; building fascia; vehicles; hoardings. Then stick with it, whatever you are told because you are aiming to build a recognisable long term image. Changing after you’ve started is fatal.

2 - Register it at the Intellectual Property Office which will tell you if it conflicts with something already registered as well as giving you protection against copying and ‘passing off’.

3 - If you don’t already have a clear, simple and descriptive brand (i.e. logo, name and short strap line) use a small designer, or run a local competition, with prizes at your local art college for students to come up with original designs. It doesn’t have to be clever, or an award winner, just clear, descriptive of what you do and memorable.
